WEBSTER FUSEE DIAL WALL CLOCK

A fusee dial wall clock is a traditional British timepiece utilising a cone-shaped pulley system connected by a chain or gut line to equalise the power output of the mainspring. Housed in a round wooden casing with a painted dial, these clocks provided accurate timekeeping in public, commercial, and residential spaces throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

These clocks typically feature a solid mahogany or oak turned surround, a cast brass bezel with glass, and a painted iron or brass dial face. The internal movement consists of heavy brass plates, steel arbors, and a brass fusee cone connected via steel chain or gut line.

Authentic period examples feature hand-painted dials, cast brass bezels with original latching mechanisms, and heavy brass internal movements stamped with maker marks or serial numbers. Hand-cut gear teeth, natural wood ageing, and original chain drive systems also indicate genuine period construction.
