Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 17th and 18th centuries, japanning was a European technique designed to imitate Asian lacquerwork, applied to timber longcase clocks using varnish and painted chinoiserie scenes.

These clocks typically feature a pine or oak casing treated with layered black or coloured lacquer, decorated with raised gilded motifs, and fitted with a brass dial and weight-driven movement.

Authentic period pieces display fine craquelure across the lacquer finish, hand-engraved brass dials with cast corner spandrels, and hand-painted gilt chinoiserie artwork showing signs of subtle age.

Position the clock as a focal architectural element in an entryway, drawing room, or hallway, allowing its detailed gilt decoration to contrast against neutral wall tones.

Keep the casing away from direct sunlight, radiators, and damp conditions to prevent cracking, dusting gentle surfaces with a dry microfibre cloth without liquid polishes.
