This Georgian long case clock is a late 18th century black japanned timepiece with later chinoiserie decoration. The case shows elegant proportions, featuring a long trunk door and a square brass dial with subsidiary seconds, signed Brownless of Staindrop. The black and gold piece incorporates gilt finials on top, curved side columns framing the dial, and elaborate hand-painted oriental landscape scenes covering the trunk door and base. It operates on an eight-day movement and stands at 208 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 23 cm deep, measuring 82 inches by 14 inches by 9 inches.
