John Calver was considered one of the best clockmakers of his era. Particularly in the Suffolk Region.
He was born circa 1695 and worked out of Stone Street, Woodbridge (Suffolk) 1739. Married Mary Trott in October 1738. Died 1751 without Children. In his will he bequested that his former apprentice William Mahyew be allowed to purchase the shop and stock.
I have owned and sold other John Calver Longcase Clocks.
The Chinoiserie Case is Good Sound & Solid but, as expected, for a Clock that is Almost 300 Years Old, there are signs of its Age. With Raised Gilt Decoration of a Cockerel, Herds of Deer, Pagodas & Forest or Garden Scenes.

A number of Clocks are known signed for Calver including a green lacquered Longcase example with rare ‘Equation of Time’ sheet set within the inside of the trunk door.
