Description

This mahogany dressing table mirror first came to our notice after we were approached to purchase the contents of an elegant Georgian town house in the London Borough of Kensington. It was full of interesting and decorative antiques spanning many centuries. Although relegated to the floor and rather neglected, there was something rather appealing about this unusual mirror. Its design drew our attention, as did the quality of its construction and mellow colour. The dressing mirror was structurally sound and ony required some sensitive restoration to enhance its surface, which it duly received.

When antiques do not follow a recognized design, it's sometimes because at some stage in the past, it has been married (joined) together, using the best elements from two or more pieces. Even though there are no obvious signs of being altered, this lovely mirror may possibly fits into this category. If it does then its a marriage made in heaven and one that was almost certainly consummated in the 19th Century.
