Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Victorian campaign desk box takes the form of a rectangular timber chest measuring 20 cm high, 38 cm wide, and 26 cm deep. Constructed from warm brown oak with a polished wooden finish, the piece is reinforced by bright brass corner mounts, edge strapwork, and side carrying handles. The flat top contains a central oval brass cartouche, while the front features a keyhole escutcheon fitted above shaped bracket feet on a stepped plinth base. Inside the box, a fitted letter rack sits within the lid alongside multiple opening panels, including one that conceals a sliding door to a secret compartment. This sturdy desk accessory is suited for placement on an office desk or library table to store stationery and correspondence in a traditional study interior.

FAQs

A brass bound campaign box is a portable wooden container designed with reinforced brass corners and straps to protect the contents during transit, popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries for travel and military use.

These boxes were typically constructed from durable hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or teak, combined with flush-fitting brass mounts, brass corner braces, and steel or brass lock mechanisms.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, flush-fitting brass hardware secured with single-slot screws, age-appropriate surface oxidisation on metalwork, and evidence of timber shrinkage.

Position the box on a desk, coffee table, or sideboard to serve as a decorative focal point and functional storage container for stationery, keys, or personal accessories.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically to preserve the timber, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers on the brass to preserve its natural patina.
