Set Of Four Handsome Victorian Walnut Dining Chairs With Finely Carved Balloon Backs And Blue Velvet Seats

This is a lovely set of four Walnut Dining Chairs that were made in the Victorian era. The Balloon Backs are finely carved with striking motifs on the top rail and the central bar. The seats are well upholstered in midnight blue velvet.
The chairs stand on most unusually carved front legs with the usual splay legs to the rear. Possible repairs to some legs.
We have dated these elegant chairs in the Early to Mid-Victorian era of about 1830-1860.

It was a long period of peace, prosperity, ''refined sensibilities'' and national self-confidence for the United Kingdom. Some scholars date the beginning of the period in terms of sensibilities and political concerns to the passage of the Reform Act 1832.
