Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Black Forest carved furniture originated in Brienz, Switzerland, during the nineteenth century, created by local artisans famed for crafting intricate wood-carved wildlife figures such as bears, stags, and birds for grand European interiors.

These items were primarily hand-carved from native Swiss hardwoods such as linden wood, walnut, or oak, before being stained and finished with shellac or wax to enhance the timber grain.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display detailed hand-carving showing natural fur texture, anatomical accuracy, expressive facial features, and subtle tool marks consistent with period craftsmanship rather than modern machine production.

A carved bear chair functions as a focal piece in an entryway, library, or hallway, harmonising well with eclectic decor, maximalist schemes, or traditional country house aesthetics.

Dust the detailed carvings using a soft-bristled brush, apply high-quality beeswax periodically to nourish the wood, and keep the item away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity levels to prevent timber splitting.
