Description of the Victorian Mahogany Bedside Tables:
A fine quality antique English Victorian pair of mahogany bedside tables, circa 1850, with small proportions. They are made from solid mahogany, with Victorian adapted legs. Each table features two drawers, and both are in excellent condition.
Each of these Victorian bedside cabinets has an elegant mahogany drawer, and both drawers keep their original ebonised knobs. Inside, hand-dovetailed joints hold the oak drawer linings together. A raised up-stand frames the back of each top. Below, a bead moulded frieze and decorative reeded beading finish the lower frame. In addition, a square moulded skirt adds support. The tables stand on four Victorian, elegant ring-turned legs, and a shaped pot-board unites them. The frames and legs are solid mahogany throughout. During the mid-to-late 19th century, England imported the best quality mahogany from around the world. As a result, English cabinetmakers had superb timber to work with.
Condition Report:
A fine quality antique English Victorian pair of mahogany bedside tables, circa 1850, with small proportions. They are made from solid mahogany, with Victorian adapted legs. Each table has two drawers, and both nightstands are in excellent condition. The drawers open and close freely. Craftsmen adapted these bedsides from a Victorian dressing table. Our workshop has cleaned and hand French polished both tables to a professional standard. Therefore, the colour and patination of the mahogany is excellent. There are nominal old use marks to the tops, leading edges and inside the drawers. However, these are not significant, given the age of the tables. The frames are top-quality solid mahogany, and the drawer fronts are mahogany too. Together, they give a superb colour and patination. Finally, this pair of mahogany nightstands is solid in joint. They do not wobble and are ready to use.
