Clockwise has dated this Oak Drop Dial Clock to the Victorian era.

Dating from circa 1845 this lovely English clock benefits from an eight day fusee movement with rectangular plates, shaped shoulders and an anchor escapement and has been fully overhauled so benefits from my three year guarantee.
The oak case has fantastic colour and patination since its restoration with a lovely sheen to it. The lower door retains a working lock and there is the usual side inspection door. The heavy brass cast bezel closes securely and locks into a latch.

The 16 inch dial is a particular feature of this lovely clock and has the name of the retailer - H. Richardson, Swan Street, Manchester - to the dial. The handsome appearance is finished by the original blued spade hands. H. Richardson was a prominent 19th-century watchmaker and jeweller based in Manchester at multiple central Manchester locations, most notably 24 Swan Street and 145 Oldham Street, as well as Market Place. Antique pocket watches, self-winding pedometer-wound watches, and pocket watch keys bearing the Richardson name and the Swan Street or Oldham Street addresses are highly collectible and can still be found in antique markets and historical institution collections, such as the British Museum.

This is a truly stunning clock in gorgeous condition and with its viewing window and large size would have been used in a public, official location, or been a bespoke purchase for a wealthy client.
