Frequently Asked Questions

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco seating from the 1920s and 1930s is defined by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined contours, and rich veneers such as walnut or mahogany. The style prioritised modern symmetry, bold graphic patterns, and polished timber finishes.

Craftsmen utilised high-grade hardwoods, particularly burr walnut, rosewood, and macassar ebony veneers. Upholstery frequently incorporated textiles including velvet, silk, woven geometric fabrics, or leather.

Authentic pieces display period-correct joinery, natural timber grain variations beneath aged lacquer, and balanced proportions. Original frames often show subtle signs of age to the wood finish alongside traditional internal spring or webbing construction.

Position the chair as a standalone accent piece alongside contemporary minimalist furniture to highlight its geometric silhouette. Pair it with a simple floor lamp, neutral rug, or minimalist side table to balance the warm wood tones and patterned fabric.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally to protect the timber finish. Keep the upholstery away from direct sunlight to prevent fading, and vacuum gently using a soft brush attachment.
