Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. The balloon backs display decorative carved details, while the turned legs feature octagonal elements. Each seat pad is upholstered in a neutral grey linen fabric and sits within a frame measuring 85.5 cm high, 47 cm wide, and 45 cm deep for the single chairs. Positioned around a dining table in a traditional dining room, the suite brings classic English country house style to daily meals and gatherings. The removable lift-out seat pads provide practical utility, while the curvaceous woodwork creates a cohesive arrangement suitable for formal entertaining and everyday family use alike.

FAQs

Balloon back chairs were introduced during the late Regency period and became widely popular in the early Victorian era from the 1830s through the mid-19th century. They feature a distinctively rounded, open back structure that evolved alongside advancements in woodworking techniques.

Victorian dining chairs were commonly crafted from dense, high-quality timbers such as rosewood, mahogany, and walnut. The construction utilised traditional joinery like mortise and tenon joints, complemented by hand-carved decorative motifs and upholstered drop-in or fixed seats.

Authentic 19th-century rosewood chairs exhibit dark, rich graining with characteristic black or dark purple streaks. Look for historic joinery marks underneath the seat frames, hand-carved detailing on the rails, and natural patination on the turned timber legs.

Pairing Victorian chairs with a sleek contemporary table creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and minimalist modern design. Neutral seat fabric helps integrate the deep timber tones into light, modern dining room palettes.

Maintain rosewood furniture by regularly wiping it with a dry, soft cloth and applying high-grade beeswax polish along the wood grain periodically. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent drying or discolouration.
