Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Japanese Meiji lacquer jewellery box forms a small cabinet with a rectangular wooden frame finished in gold gilt over a red ground. The exterior features a hinged panel door hung on original metal hinges, opening to reveal three internal drawers with dark red lacquer fronts and gold botanical decoration, alongside a shaped plinth base and an original metal handle mounted to the top. The interior door panel depicts painted cranes in flight and pine trees in gold tones. The cabinet measures Width 3 1/2 inches (9cm), Height 4 3/4 inches (12cm), and Depth 5 inches (12.7cm). Placing this decorative box on a sideboard top brings a traditional accent to a gentleman's library or a living space. The interior drawers provide practical storage for small trinkets and jewellery in a modern interior.

A kodansu is a small Japanese tabletop cabinet originating in the Edo and Meiji periods, traditionally featuring a single hinged door enclosing internal drawers for storing trinkets or incense accessories.

These cabinets were built from timber cores coated with multi-layered natural Urushi tree sap lacquer, decorated using gold dust or gold leaf techniques, and finished with fitted metal handles.

Authentic period items exhibit hand-applied maki-e brushwork, subtle unevenness in gold foliage detailing, fine age marks around handle attachments, and organic joint construction.

Position the box as a focal feature on a neutral sideboard, vanity unit, or desk alongside minimal stone or ceramic items to highlight its detailed gilded surface.

Keep lacquer items away from direct sunlight, central heating, and high humidity variations, dusting softly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth rather than applying liquid polish.
