This 19th-century pier mirror belongs to the Gothic Revival style and measures 189 cm high, 81.5 cm wide, and 9 cm deep. The piece is constructed from mahogany with a dark brown flame mahogany veneer, mirror glass, and an original backboard. The design incorporates a pointed Gothic arch top, carved foliate tracery with acanthus leaves and flower sprays, fleur-de-lis points overlaying the glass, moulded columns, and a two-plate glass configuration with visible minor wear and tarnish. Suitable for a narrow wall space in a home today, this console mirror works well in an entryway, hallway, or living room. Fixing brackets are supplied for installation. The frame has been cleaned and waxed.

A Gothic Revival pier mirror is a tall, narrow wall mirror crafted during the 19th-century architectural movement that drew inspiration from medieval ecclesiastical designs, characterized by pointed arches, tracery motifs, and vertical proportions.

These mirrors were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, often featuring hand-carved decorative crestings, moulded side columns, and mercury glass mirror plates.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved joinery, hand-planed timber backings, natural age-related oxidisation in the glass plates, and carved architectural details like crockets, cusps, and lancet arches.

Position the mirror in a narrow hallway, between two large windows, or above a minimalist console table to draw the eye upwards and add architectural character to contemporary spaces.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and polish with beeswax occasionally, while cleaning the glass with a damp cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals near the silvering or wood edges.
