Gilt and Gesso has dated this William IV Mahogany Hall Chair to the 19th Century.
A very fine, well constructed hall chair, constructed with excellent mahogany timbers and design characteristics consistent with the Dublin cabinet makers and most probably John Strahan and Co.
Many of the grand Anglo Irish estates in and around Dublin during the early 20th century were spot up and the label beneath confirms the sale of this chair was conducted by auctioneer and high end antique dealers James Ryan, 4 and 46 Upper George St, Kingstown, later renamed in 1920s. These were known to be grand estate sale premises.
The chair possesses distinct design elements of Strahan and Co, with scroll volutes around the cartouche back rest and a rare rear stretcher to the sabre rear legs and crisp reeded front legs, all characteristic of Strahan.
Presented in mostly excellent, original condition.
