Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A campaign writing slope is a portable wooden box developed for military officers and travellers during the 18th and 19th centuries, featuring a slanted fold-out writing surface lined with leather or velvet and internal compartments for inkwells and stationery.

Writing slopes were typically crafted from hardwoods such as mahogany, teak, or rosewood, reinforced with brass corner straps and flush handles to withstand transport, with interiors lined in tooled leather or baize.

Authentic 19th-century writing slopes feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass corner mounts, period brass lock mechanisms, and natural age-related patination or craquelure on the timber and leather surfaces.

An antique writing slope can be displayed closed or open on an office desk, console table, or library shelf as a functional accent, paired with vintage books, brass candlesticks, or framed prints.

Dust timber surfaces with a soft cloth, apply natural beeswax polish periodically to protect the mahogany, keep the leather insert conditioned, and store the box away from direct sunlight, radiators, or excessive humidity.
