Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Art Nouveau elbow chair is a seating design from the late 19th or early 20th century featuring open armrests and stylized organic forms. These pieces often blend traditional cabinetmaking techniques with flowing lines and decorative upholstery characteristic of the era.

Craftsmen typically utilised hardwoods such as beech, oak, mahogany, or walnut for the framed structure. The seats and backrests were commonly stuffed and upholstered in woven tapestry, needlepoint, or damask fabrics.

Authentic examples often display hand-turned spindles, carved or pierced splats with organic motifs, and natural wood patination. Look for period joinery techniques, such as mortise and tenon joints, alongside original or period-appropriate tapestry seat pads.

An antique carver chair can serve as a focal point in a contemporary hallway, function as a desk chair in a home study, or complete an eclectic dining set. Placing it alongside minimalist decor highlights its structural craftsmanship and textile detail.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent textile fading and wood warping. Vacuum the upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment, and condition the wooden frame periodically with natural beeswax polish.
