Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian style dining chairs are defined by balanced proportions, straight or gently tapered legs, and decorative backrests such as bar backs, spindle designs, or pierced splats. Originating in 18th-century Britain, these designs were later reproduced during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras using high-grade hardwoods.

Primary construction relies on dense mahogany or walnut, prized for strength and rich grain patterns. Seat frames typically incorporate corner blocks for stability, while drop-in or padded seats are upholstered in wool tapestry, woven damask, or leather.

Authentic period chairs feature hand-cut joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, subtle irregularities from hand-planing, and natural patination on untamed timber surfaces. Turn-of-the-century revival pieces may exhibit more precise machine carving while maintaining traditional joinery techniques.

Combine these timber chairs with a sleek minimalist dining table, such as modern marble or light oak, to create visual contrast. Re-upholstering the seat pads in textured linen or neutral velvet integrates historic forms into contemporary colour schemes.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly along the grain. Keep the chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and upholstery fading.
