Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

This Victorian Jacobean Revival sideboard is fashioned from dark brown oak with a wax finish, comprising a base cabinet with two drawers featuring green man carved wooden handles, two cupboard doors with carved panels, and bulbous turned legs resting upon a lower platform. The superstructure includes a central clean bevelled mirror flanked by two glazed cabinet doors with small multi-pane glass panels, set beneath an ornate cornice. Rich foliate carved decoration spans the friezes and panels throughout, complemented by turned supports on the upper tier. Practical for storage and display, this substantial piece measures 205 cm tall, 153 cm wide, and 60 cm deep. It suits placement in a dining room or hallway as a traditional yet functional focal point for tableware, linens, or decorative objects in a period interior.

FAQs

Jacobean Revival sideboards, popular in the late 19th century, feature heavy relief carvings, turned bulbous legs, and architectural proportions inspired by 17th-century English oak furniture.

Traditional pieces utilise solid oak, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, tongue-and-groove backing panels, and mortise-and-tenon frame joinery.

Look for genuine age-related wear, unevenness in hand-carved details, historical hardware with hand-cut screws or cast iron handles, and secondary woods like pine or oak used for interior drawer linings.

Balance the visual weight of heavy carved oak by pairing the piece with neutral wall tones, minimalist contemporary ceramics, or modern lighting to create contrast.

Dust regularly using a soft brush to reach inside carved recesses, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood and prevent drying.
