Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pier mirror is a tall, narrow mirror designed during the Victorian era to be mounted on the wall space, or pier, between windows or in entrance halls to reflect light and create an illusion of increased space.

Victorian gilt frames were typically constructed from carved timber coated with gesso, a smooth plaster mixture, before being finished with genuine gold leaf and fitted with silvered glass.

Authentic pieces usually feature hand-carved wood or molded gesso details over a timber frame, evidence of red clay bole beneath areas where gold leaf has worn, and minor natural oxidisation on the mirror plate.

Position the mirror at the end of a hallway, above a console table, or anchored in a narrow alcove to add height, depth, and historical contrast against contemporary plasterwork or paint schemes.

Dust the gilded frame gently with a soft dry feather duster or microfiber cloth, avoiding water, chemical polishes, or liquid glass cleaners that can erode delicate gesso and gold leaf.
