Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian silver snuff box is a small, hinged container manufactured in Great Britain between 1714 and 1830, specifically designed for holding powdered tobacco. These boxes were personal pocket items crafted by silversmiths using hallmarked sterling silver, often featuring engraved family crests or emblems.

Eighteenth-century snuff boxes were predominantly constructed from sterling silver, often featuring interior gilding to protect the metal from oxidisation caused by damp tobacco. Additional materials of the period included gold, tortoise shell, mother-of-pearl, and enamel work.

Authentic George III silver items bear official British hallmark series stamped into the metal, including the monarchs profile duty mark, the makers mark, the sterling lion passant, a town mark such as the London leopard head, and a specific date letter.

Small antique silver boxes serve as functional desk accessories, paperweights, or display pieces within curated tray arrangements. Placing silver objects on dark timber surfaces or alongside leather-bound books highlights the polished metal finish and engraved historical details.

Silver gilt items require gentle cleaning with a soft, dry cotton cloth to prevent wearing away the thin layer of gold wash. Chemical polishes and abrasive creams should be avoided on gilt interiors, whilst mild silver foam can be lightly applied to outer silver surfaces if tarnish occurs.
