An absolutely stunning and rare 18th Century GEORGE III Heavy Gauge Silver Gilt Snuff box by renowned maker CORNELIUS BLAND, LONDON 1795.
The cartouche on the lid has the TRISKELION (Three legs of Man) wrapped inside a circular border. The text within reads “QUOCUNQUE JECERIS STABIT” which translates to “Whichever way you throw it, it will stand”. The historic national motto of the ISLE OF MAN.
Measuring 9 cm x 3 cm x 2.5 cm and weighs 76.9 grams.
In excellent antique condition for its 231 years, the hallmarks are very good, hinge working well , there is slight surface wear, gilding is still bright, engraving a little rubbed but still good, usual signs of wear all commensurate of age and use. It looks barely used.
A beautiful Georgian period piece and with the MANX connection a really rare item.
