Set Of 8 Arts And Crafts Oak Chairs Glasgow School C. 1900

A particularly beautiful set of eight quarter sawn oak chairs with a shaped central back splat, gently curved flanking splats and a serpentine curved top rail which has been relief carved with a diamond within a heart shape.
 
These chairs were almost certainly designed by E.A. Taylor and made by Wylie and Lockhead in c. 1900 and so are attributed as such. None are stamped.
 
All of the chairs are in very good original condition with only minor wear, dings and scuffs consistent with age and use. They are extremely robust with no movement and this is a very comfortable set if chairs – the tall shaped back with a gentle rake and curved splats.
 
The drop in seat pads are covered with a dark gold velvet, some pads with small marks and light wear but nothing significant and with no tears or holes.
 
There are a small number of very old woodworm holes on one chair – ib one of the seat rails at the side - where the chair has probably been sat up against a wall for many years. The worm is...
