Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian overmantel mirror is a decorative wall-mounted mirror produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910). Characterised by lighter timber tones such as walnut and mahogany, these pieces incorporated architectural features including pediments, turned columns, and multiple glass plates with small display shelves.

These mirrors were primarily constructed using solid hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, often combined with high-grade timber veneers. The mirror plates featured thick silvered glass, sometimes bevelled along the edges, and were supported by mortise and tenon timber joinery.

Authentic period pieces display natural age-related oxidisation or slight foxing on the silvered mirror plates. The woodwork typically shows hand-carved accents, authentic period jointing, natural timber wear on unexposed surfaces, and original brass fixings on the reverse.

Mount the mirror directly above a living room hearth or a wide hallway console table to add vertical scale and reflect light. Pair the rich walnut tones with neutral wall colours, contemporary ceramics, or minimalist brass accessories to create a balanced contrast between period and modern design.

Dust the timber frame regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Preserve the walnut finish with a high-quality beeswax polish applied sparingly along the grain, and clean the glass plate using a non-ammonia cleaner sprayed onto a microfiber cloth rather than directly onto the frame.
