Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Designed originally in 1807 by Italian cabinetmaker Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi, the Chiavari chair transformed traditional seating with its lightweight, structurally refined turned components. The aesthetic gained widespread popularity across European salons throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, frequently reinterpreted in gilded timber and cast brass.

These frames are constructed from solid cast or tubular brass, often feature turned spindle details, and are joined with mechanical threaded fasteners or structural welds. Seats are typically built with framed timber boards wrapped in padded upholstery fabrics such as brocade, velvet, or damask.

Period examples exhibit hand-turned spindling, heavier cast brass alloys, and natural surface oxidisation around joinery points. Modern reproductions tend to feature lighter hollow metal tubing, uniform machine polishing without natural tarnish, and contemporary synthetic upholstery backings.

A brass salon chair operates as an accent piece when placed beside a dressing table, within a hallway alcove, or as a corner feature in a bedroom suite. The metallic warmth provides visual contrast when paired alongside matte wall finishes and structured timber case goods.

Clean brass components using a soft microfiber cloth slightly dampened with warm water, avoiding harsh abrasive polishes that strip protective lacquers or lacquered patinas. Fabric seats require regular light vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and immediate spot-cleaning for spills using specialized textile cleansers.
