Slotted screws to the hinges: fix the construction before the mid-twentieth century.
Stamped oval brass number plaque: fits museum or school collection casework.
Turned three-quarter corner columns: architectural styling popular in show furniture.
Mellow colour and softened edges to the plinth: years of careful handling.

Billy Hunt and Co is located on a large Victorian farm just a short country drive from the Rangemore village, a designated conservation area, which was built by Michael Thomas Bass in the 1850s to house the Bass Rangemore Estate workers consisting mainly of Victorian redbrick cottages and the occasional barn.

Our home is a classic Victorian designed and well equipped late 19th century 2 story red brick built barn of some 4000 sq feet nestled in classic English countryside, which enjoyed a careful full renovation in 2000. The estate still benefits being managed in the traditional manner with an Estate Manger, estate carpenter, gardeners etc. A rather delightful place to have as our work space.

Martina, there is no Billy at Billy hunt, has led the team since 2103 and is an interior designer qualified from The Inchbald School of Design London whose previous working life included such clients as Vertu, Aston Martin and Johnnie Walker to name a few.

Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have any questions on the pieces that may interest you - Many thanks Martina

This early 20th-century display cabinet from the 1920s takes the form of a tabletop showcase, standing 46 cm high, 38 cm wide and 34.5 cm deep. The piece uses solid mahogany with a warm brown finish, combined with glass side panels, a green felt-lined base, and brass hardware including a numbered latch on the rear door. Turned corner columns frame the front, while stepped mouldings define the top and base, and a panelled door closes the back. Day-to-day historic marks show on the wood, and the interior green felt lining has been replaced. A small cup with a botanical pattern and animal motif sits inside the case on the green base. The compact proportions make this cabinet suitable for placement on top of a sideboard or desk in a study, library or living room to display small collectibles.

Tabletop glazed display cases are compact glass-panelled cabinets designed to showcase and protect small items, specimens, or retail goods on flat surfaces.

Early twentieth-century display cases typically feature solid timber frames such as mahogany or oak, fitted with glass panels, brass hardware, and felt or velvet interior linings.

Authentic period pieces feature traditional wood joinery, period-correct brass escutcheons or catches, subtle imperfections in the drawn glass, and natural wear to the base timber.

Position the cabinet on a sideboard, console table, or desk to house curio items, mineral specimens, small sculptures, or cherished personal objects.

Clean the glass panels using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized cleaner, while applying natural beeswax to the timber frame to protect the finish.
