Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mid-19th century mahogany dressing mirror, historically termed a toilet glass, is a free-standing mirror intended to sit atop a dressing table or chest of drawers. Originating in the Early to Mid-Victorian period, these mirrors consist of a tilting glass pane held between turned timber posts mounted on a weighted wooden plinth.

These mirrors were constructed using solid mahogany or rich flame mahogany veneers applied over a soft timber core. Lathe-turned upright columns, molded plinth bases, and brass or wooden swivel knobs were standard construction elements of the era.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-carved or turned timber elements, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and natural age-related oxidisation on the timber underside. Original mirror glass may demonstrate soft desilverisation or slight dark spots behind the pane.

Position the mirror on a contemporary sideboard, hallway console, or bedroom dresser to introduce rich wood tones and historical context. Pairing dark timber accents against neutral or softly textured walls highlights the classic silhouettes of period furniture.

Dust the mahogany frame regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly once or twice a year following the grain. Clean the glass with a damp cloth, avoiding moisture contact with the surrounding timber moulding or backing board.
