Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A campaign writing slope is a portable wooden desktop box that unfolds to provide an angled writing surface alongside compartments for pens, inkwells, and correspondence. Originating in the late eighteenth century, these boxes were constructed for military officers and travellers requiring functional writing equipment on transport.

Victorian writing slopes were predominantly built from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often featuring flame or burr veneers. Construction incorporated flush brass corner brackets, brass strapping, and steel lock mechanisms designed to protect the box during transit.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-cut dovetail joints, flush brass fittings screwed directly into the timber, and original brass escutcheons. Internal writing surfaces traditionally retain remnants of leather or baize, and period locks often bear maker marks from established nineteenth-century locksmiths.

An antique writing box functions effectively as a decorative accent placed on an office desk, sideboard, or coffee table. When kept closed, it provides a geometric wood and brass focal point; when opened, it can display stationery or remain set up as a book rest.

To preserve the timber, apply a high-grade beeswax polish along the direction of the wood grain and keep the item away from direct sunlight and strong heat sources. Brass fittings should be dusted with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive metal cleaners that can damage surrounding wood finishes.
