Exhibit Antiques has dated this Georgian Baluster Dram Glass to the Georgian era.
A very fine early 18th century baluster dram glass dating to circa 1715–1720. It features a round funnel bowl with a solid base. The stem has a teared shoulder knop, with the tear extending down into the basal knop. The glass stands on a conical folded foot.
Historical Context
They are characterised by large bowls and thick stems composed of a series of knops, giving them a strong, architectural appearance.
Dram glasses were used in the early 18th century because strong spirits were consumed in small, quick measures, and these glasses provided the ideal size, strength, and practicality for that purpose.
