17th Century Oak Desk Box

A good example of an English oak desk box dating from the late 17th Century. It has a sloped front with its original hinges and it opens to an interior with two small shelves. It has nicely carved detail on each side and an oval brass escutcheon. It stands on four small raised feet which have been added later but could be removed if desired.
 
It is in good condition and has developed a lovely rich patina. There are some signs of age and use, some old marks, splits and ink stains but overall it displays well. There are some signs of historic worm which has all been treated as a precaution.
