Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 19th-century English Country dining chairs in ash comprise a set of six side chairs and two armchairs with dark brown timber tones and woven rush seats. Each chair presents a high ladderback design with five wavy horizontal slats, complemented by open arms on the carver chairs, turned front stretcher bars, and pad feet. The ash timber exhibits a polished dark brown finish. Measuring 110 cm high, 62 cm wide, and 60 cm deep, these rustic farmhouse chairs provide ample seating for a formal dining room or a country kitchen table. They integrate naturally into a traditional or transitional interior scheme as functional dining seating.

FAQs

Ladderback chairs are regional seating designs popular throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, characterized by horizontal wooden slats across the backrest resembling ladder rungs.

These chairs were crafted predominantly from native hardwoods such as ash, oak, or beech, paired with hand-woven natural rush seats for durability and comfort.

Authentic 19th-century examples feature hand-turned legs and stretchers, shaped or wavy back slats, hand-woven rush seats, and natural surface wear on the front stretchers.

Position these chairs around a contemporary or scrubbed timber dining table to introduce tactile natural materials, warm wood tones, and historical depth to modern spaces.

Maintain the timber by applying clear beeswax polish periodically, and preserve the rush seats by keeping them away from damp environments and direct heat sources.
