Description

An elegant set of six antique dining chairs, dating to the late Victorian period, crafted in solid wood with beautifully shaped open backs and gently curved top rails.

The chairs stand on turned front legs with swept rear legs, giving them a light yet refined silhouette typical of the period.

All six chairs retain their original upholstered seats, finished in a decorative floral fabric which remains clean, well-presented and comfortable.

The frames are solid and stable, making the set perfectly suitable for everyday dining use as well as for a more formal setting.

This is a well-matched set with consistent colour, form and proportions increasingly difficult to find in this condition.

Seat height: 46 cm

Very good antique condition.

All frames are solid and stable.

There are light, age related signs of wear to the wood consistent with normal use over time, adding to the chairs character.

Upholstery is in very good order throughout.

Date of Manufacture

MebleinUK has dated these Victorian Dining Chairs to the Victorian era.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian dining chairs typically feature dark hardwoods like mahogany or walnut, curved or balloon backs, and heavily turned or fluted legs reflecting the eclectic revival styles of the 19th century.

Craftsmen predominantly used solid timbers such as mahogany, walnut, oak, and rosewood, often joined using traditional mortise and tenon techniques with horsehair or wool stuffing for upholstery.

Authentication involves inspecting the wood for hand-tool marks, checking joinery for handmade construction rather than modern metal screws, and examining the underside for period-appropriate webbing and stuffing materials.

Pairing antique wooden chairs with a sleek, contemporary dining table creates a balanced juxtaposition that highlights the historic craftsmanship while maintaining a fresh, uncluttered aesthetic.

Protect antique chairs by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the timber, and using professional cleaning methods for fragile fabrics.
