Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French iron combination cash box, historically known as a coffre-fort, is a secure portable container crafted during the nineteenth century. These boxes were engineered with internal locking mechanisms operated by external rotary dials or keys to safeguard currency, deeds, and personal valuables.

These security boxes were typically constructed from heavy wrought or cast iron to prevent forced entry, often finished with dark protective paint. Functional external components, such as combination dials, escutcheons, and handles, were commonly made from cast brass or steel.

Authentic period examples demonstrate substantial physical weight, hand-assembled mechanical components, and natural wear or oxidisation around high-contact areas like dials and handles. Original maker stamps, French patent marks, or characteristic lettered dials also help confirm origin.

An antique iron cash box serves as a compelling tactile accent when placed on an executive office desk, a dark timber sideboard, or open library shelving. Its dark metal finish contrasts effectively against lighter wooden surfaces, stone, or glass.

Maintain iron surfaces by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a light coat of clear microcrystalline wax to guard against humidity and rust. Mechanical dials should be kept free of debris, with occasional light application of machine oil to the interior mechanism if accessible.
