Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These cabinets feature architectural design elements drawn from medieval art, such as pointed arches, blind tracery, and geometric panelling. Originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this design movement emphasised visible timber grain, honest craftsmanship, and structural integrity over mass-produced ornamentation.

Cabinets from this era were typically constructed using solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut. Joinery techniques often included hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon frames, and hand-carved decorative elements along the front panels.

Authentic pieces display natural signs of age, including subtle wear around the base, historical patination on metal escutcheons, and irregular hand-worked carving marks. Examining interior drawer or box joints for hand-saw marks and original lock mechanisms also helps verify period authenticity.

Place the cabinet on a modern sideboard, console, or study desk to serve as a focal point that provides functional desktop storage. Combining dark carved timber with clean modern surfaces creates an engaging tactile and visual contrast.

Dust the timber regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth along the direction of the wood grain. Apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the mahogany and preserve the finish, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators.
