Description

A large and very impressive antique Edwardian inlaid mahogany cheval mirror. This was made in England, it dates from around 1900-1910.

It is a great size and is of superb quality. The mahogany frame has beautiful inlaid satin wood banding around the edges. There are very well made acorn finials and very impressive, finely detailed brass circular handles which adjust the tension. The base is pierced with lovely lattice work, the splayed legs terminate in brass hairy paw casters. The mirror can be tilted to various angles and removed completely for ease of transport.

The actual mirror glass is original & bevelled. There is a little bit of spotting in places, which we have highlighted in the images. This only adds to the character.

We have had this recently re-polished, it is in excellent condition for its age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, typically combined lighter proportions and influences from earlier periods such as Sheraton and Chippendale with refined marquetry and crossbanding.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or satinwood, often featuring fine line inlay, stringing, or satinwood crossbanding, supported by robust pivoted floor stands with brass fittings.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the timber grain, hand-cut dovetails or joinery, original brass pivot screws, and the presence of slight foxing or oxidisation within the glass plate.

Placing a vintage wooden standing mirror against a neutral wall introduces warmth, verticality, and historic contrast to modern architectural spaces.

Maintain the timber by applying microcrystalline wax periodically, avoiding direct sunlight, and cleaning the mirror glass with a lint-free cloth and mild solution without spraying directly onto the frame joints.
