Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late 19th-century French Louis XVI style side table functions as a lamp or bedside table, fashioned from warm brown satinwood, marble, ormolu, and brass. The rectangular piece displays a marble top above an oak-lined single drawer decorated with chevron parquetry veneer, a small round metal knob handle, and cast gilt bronze corner mounts. Turned and tapering legs connect via a lower tier shelf that also features geometric wood veneer patterns, ending in small brass terminals at the base. The table measures 84 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, with slight surface wear visible on the wooden frame. In a modern interior, this side table fits well at the end of a sofa in a living room, or beside a bed as a nightstand to hold a reading lamp and everyday items. The lower shelf offers space to place books or small decorative objects, while the narrow footprint allows it to sit easily in compact spaces.

FAQs

French Louis XVI style furniture features neoclassical proportions, geometric wood veneers such as chevron or herringbone parquetry, turned tapered legs, and integrated marble tops framed by brass or bronze mounts.

These tables were typically built using solid hardwood frames faced with fine exotic veneers like satinwood, rosewood, or kingwood, topped with natural marble slabs and detailed with cast gilt bronze or brass mounts.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut veneer thickness, natural timber oxidisation, hand-milled dovetail joints on drawers, and original patination on metal mounts alongside irregular tool marks on the marble underside.

Position the piece as an accent side table beside a structured sofa, beneath a contemporary mirror in a hallway, or as a sophisticated bedside table paired with modern ceramic lighting.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to preserve the veneer glue, and clean marble with pH-neutral solutions avoiding acidic substances.
