FAQs

Decorative caskets and urns made from metals like lead and brass were historically used for storing keepsakes, documents, or ashes, often featuring symbolic motifs reflecting mourning or commemoration.

These pieces typically combine heavy-cast metals such as lead bodies with brass detailing or figural finials, assembled using traditional casting, soldering, and mechanical fitting techniques.

Authenticity is determined by examining metal patina, weight, casting seams, oxidation patterns, and the style of the figural finial to match known historical manufacturing periods.

Such objects work effectively as focal decorative accessories on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or side tables, adding industrial texture and historic character to a room.

Preservation requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth without chemical polishes, allowing the natural oxidised patina to remain intact while protecting the metal from moisture.
