This is a great coquilla nut Georgian patch box with a carved head  of a Roman on the lid, this type of decoration was popular  typicalyl from around the 1790s-1830s.
 
It measures 4cm w.
 
Patch boxes were small, decorative containers used mainly in the 18th and early 19th centuries to hold beauty patches — tiny bits of fabric or gummed silk that fashionable men and women stuck on their faces as beauty marks.
