Nineteenth-century mirrors frequently utilized native softwoods such as pine, often featuring turned or bobbin moulding details that reflected prevailing domestic design trends of the period.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid pine timber, utilising pegged or mitred joints for the frames, with turned wooden elements applied to create decorative borders.

Authentic items can be identified by the presence of hand-cut joints, traditional foxing or oxidisation on the original glass plate, and natural patina accumulated on the wooden surfaces over time.

Mounting the piece against a plain neutral wall allows the natural grain and textural turned details of the timber frame to serve as a focal point within a room.

Preservation involves dusting the timber gently with a dry cloth and cleaning the glass with a mild solution, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that might damage the surface finish.
