A handsome pair of early 19th-century English country armchairs, beautifully crafted from solid mahogany. Each features a gently curved top rail, shaped open arms, and square legs joined by stretchers. Subtle differences between the two chairs reflect the individuality of hand craftsmanship typical of provincial Georgian furniture. Show normal use commensurate with age.
Big Chair: H 82 cm, W 63 cm and Depth 46 cm. Seat Height 37 cm and Arm Height 59 cm
Smaller Chair: H 73.5 cm, W 57 cm and Depth 49 cm. Seat Height 34 cm and Arm Height 56 cm
Constructed with traditional pegged mortise-and-tenon joints and original seat rails, these chairs display fine early 19th-century joinery and excellent structural integrity. The later drop-in seats are upholstered in soft chartreuse velvet, offering a pleasing contrast to the rich, warm mahogany.
Ideal as occasional, hall, or dining chairs, they bring understated country house character and timeless English style to any interior.
