This unusual antique drinks cabinet and display table, dating from the 1920s, is made from dark brown walnut with a rich patina, curved glass panels, and a removable oval tray top. The piece includes beaded border mouldings, hinged glazed doors with small metal handles, carved floral details on the lower frame, and slender cabriole legs ending in pad feet. Minor age-related marks appear on the timber, alongside clear glass and a visible fabric lining inside. Measuring 71 cm high, 77 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, it provides compact storage for bottles and glassware. Suitable for a gentleman's library or a living room, this cabinet fits well in an empty corner as both a display surface and a functional drinks holder. The interior provides space for glassware or collectibles, while the removable tray top allows for practical serving use. It stands steadily on a patterned carpet while offering traditional colonial style suited to period and classic interiors.

FAQs

Glazed drinks cabinets and tea tables gained popularity during the early 20th century as formal entertaining evolved. Designed to hold tea services, decanters, and glassware, these pieces featured glass surround panels and often included a lift-off top tray to facilitate serving.

Furniture from this period frequently utilised solid hardwoods such as walnut or mahogany for the framed structure, combined with bevelled or clear glass panels. Traditional joinery techniques, hand-carved detailing, and polished brass hardware were standard construction features.

Authentic period pieces exhibit characteristic construction marks such as hand-cut joints, natural age-related oxidisation in the wood grain, and original glass installation techniques. Design details like cabriole legs, beaded edge moulding, and floral carved aprons were common in 1920s Colonial and Revival styles.

Place the cabinet in a dining room, living space, or study as an accent bar station. Modern styling involves displaying curated crystal glassware or vintage decanters inside the glazed compartment while using the top surface for serving accessories.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the original finish. Clean the glass panels using a non-ammonia glass cleaner sprayed directly onto a microfibre cloth to prevent liquid from seeping into the wooden frame.
