FAQs

The Rococo style emerged in France during the early 18th century, characterised by elaborate ornamentation, asymmetrical C-scrolls, S-curves, and motifs inspired by nature, shells, and foliage.

These mirrors typically feature a carved wooden frame, often made of pine or gesso-coated softwood, finished with gold leaf applied over a red bole preparation layer.

Authentic pieces often show hand-carved details, genuine foxing or oxidisation within the mercury or silvered glass plate, and period-appropriate construction techniques on the reverse.

Placing an ornate historical mirror within a minimalist or contemporary scheme creates a striking focal point through high contrast, adding texture, depth, and a sense of history.

Gilt surfaces are extremely delicate and should only be dusted gently with a soft, dry brush. Moisture, abrasive cleaners, and direct sunlight must be avoided to prevent damage to the gold leaf.
