The Regency style, spanning the early 19th century, draws heavily on classical Greco-Roman motifs, featuring symmetrical proportions, gilded surfaces, and often sophisticated eglomise or glass embellishments.

These frames were typically constructed from carved softwoods or hardwoods like pine and gesso, finished with gold leaf or metallic paint, and fitted with hand-silvered float glass.

Authenticity is usually determined by inspecting the backboards, hand-beveled or uneven glass characteristics, signs of age such as foxing on the mirror plate, and traditional joinery methods.

Pairing a period mirror with modern furnishings creates a striking contrast, often used to reflect light and add architectural interest to minimalist or eclectic spaces.

Use a soft, lint-free cloth with a gentle, non-ammonia cleaner applied to the cloth rather than directly onto the glass to prevent moisture damage to the delicate old foil and frame.
