Lined in red fabric with a brass lock inscribed “English Lever” with the Monogram C.F.B. (Cecil Frank Beadel) with various original travel labels pasted to the top and two sides.

Including a remarkable Monte-Carlo Grand Hotel label, Grosvenor London, Euston Station London and London Victoria, plus Richard Pool – Removers and Contractors label with the name ‘Mr Beadel’ and a ‘Canadian Pacific Ocean Services Limited’ label with the following hand written details:

Note: Mr. C. F. Beadel, of Calcutta (representing European commercial interests in India) and present at the Indian Railway Committee on 1 November 1920

Mr C.F. Beadel was identified as one of the gentlemen who played prominent parts in connection with the raising and equipment of Lumsden’s Horse.

The Lumsden’s Horse, also known as Colonel Lumsden's Corps, was the name given to the Indian Mounted Infantry Corps, which was formed in Calcutta in 1899 by Lieutenant-Colonel Dugald McTavish Lumsden of the Assam Valley Light Horse. The new corps was raised from volunteers from various existing Indian regiments.

In the official birthday honor’s list by King George V published in The London Gazette on 2 June 1922, Cecil Frank Beadel, Partner, Messrs. Becker, Gray and Co. of Calcutta, Bengal received “the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire” Companion (CIE).

Note: The ‘Empress of France’ formerly SS Alsatian was an ocean liner built in 1913-1914 by William Beardmore and Company at Glasgow. During the First World War, Alsatian was converted into an Armed Merchant Cruiser, at war's end, the ship was added to the fleet of ‘Canadian Pacific Ocean Services Ltd’ The ship was renamed Empress of France on 4 April 1919. From her voyage history she made a several voyages between Southampton and Quebec, her final voyage was in 1931.
