Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian Chinoiserie decorative box displays a yellow lacquer finish with hand-painted chinoiserie figures on the hinged lid and borders along the edges. The piece stands on small ball feet and incorporates a metal keyhole escutcheon fitted with a key, alongside visible surface wear and age-related craquelure across the painted lid. It measures 8 cm high, 16.5 cm wide, and 11 cm deep. In a modern home interior, this lidded wooden box functions well as a decorative desk accessory or a small container placed on top of a sideboard in a living room, hallway, or study. Its compact size allows it to sit neatly on occasional tables or shelving units while storing small keepsakes.

FAQs

Georgian chinoiserie lacquerware refers to 18th-century European decorative objects finished with paint, varnish, and gilding to imitate traditional East Asian lacquer techniques and aesthetic motifs.

These boxes were typically constructed from timber or papier-mache frameworks, covered in layered spirit varnishes, and detailed with hand-painted pigment and metallic powders.

Authentic pieces feature evidence of genuine hand-painted brushwork, natural surface craquelure, period-appropriate iron or brass locks, and hand-cut joinery consistent with historical cabinetmaking.

A chinoiserie box can be styled on a sideboard, coffee table, or bookshelf alongside clean-lined modern accessories to create visual contrast and historic interest.

Dust the surface lightly with a dry microfibre cloth, maintain stable humidity levels away from direct sunlight, and refrain from applying water, wax, or chemical solvents.
