A Very Fine Howard and Sons Style Upholstered Armchair, C1910.
A handsome early 20th century English armchair in the style of Howard and Sons, a fine quality workshop made chair of exquisite design and shape.
Acquired by us over 20 years ago during the refurbishment of the Dorchester Hotel Apartments on Park Lane in London where it is believed to have been from new and originally from Harrods. The serviced apartments were to the side of the hotel which I understand are now hotel rooms, often leased as furnished London pied a terre 2nd homes. We were fortunate to buy this and others at the time around 2005 ish.
An excellent quality English country house aesthetic armchair, in the Howard and Sons Grafton style, made to excellent and exacting standards, typically by one of the London workshops around 1900 ish, no stamp but with original castors to the front upon mahogany legs.
Upholstered in an excellent quality cotton fabric 20 years ago which is still considered in good cond
...ition, no tears but shows signs of wear and use that may require a clean. Please note that we had a professional repair recently to an arm, which had 2 breaks due to exuberant boys, this has been a family chair for the last 20 years, the restorer unpicked the fabric to access the arms and not cut fabric, this can easily be stitched back but, we shall leave as it is to allow the buyer to decide whether to remove fabric and reupholster or not.
A superbly stylish English country house chair of great quality and design, a practical armchair for a day or bedroom with loose squab cushions, an interior design chair for a classic or contemporary space.
