Keep wooden surfaces nourished with microcrystalline wax and protect fragile cane seats from excessive dryness and direct sunlight to prevent brittleness and snapping.

The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, draws heavy inspiration from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquity, featuring clean classical proportions, dark exotic woods such as rosewood and mahogany, and sophisticated brass or carved detailing.

Regency chairs were typically crafted from dense, high-status tropical timbers like rosewood and mahogany, often incorporating intricate hand-carved motifs, pegged or mortise-and-tenon joinery, and woven cane or squab-cushioned seats.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct tool marks, natural patination and oxidisation of the timber, hand-woven cane work with traditional bindings, and solid secondary woods consistent with early 19th-century cabinetmaking practices.

These chairs can be paired with a minimalist modern dining table to create a striking textural contrast, grounding contemporary spaces with historical depth and architectural elegance.
