An Impressive French Bronze of Chronos Holding a Clock Under His Arm

18th century
Description

A large late 19th century French bronze of Chronos holding a clock under his arm raised on a marble plinth and with his scythe. The casting of the bronze is superb quality.

The two train platform escapement with the makers mark on the back has an enamel dial with the original hands with passing half hour. S Marti & Cie, silver medal winners.

A small hairline crack to dial at nine o'clock

Width and depth are the marble plinth.

Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.
