Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the nineteenth century, French revival cabinets drew heavy inspiration from 18th-century Rococo and Louis XV designs. Cabinetmakers combined rich rosewood veneers with hand-painted varnish panels and ornate brass mounts to create decorative storage pieces for formal drawing rooms.

These cabinets were constructed using a solid timber frame faced with high-grade rosewood veneer. Decorative details included oil-painted or lacquered central panels, framed with cast brass or bronze ormolu mountings and gilded moulding.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail or mortise-and-tenon joinery, genuine rosewood graining, and original cast metal mounts showing slight age-related oxidisation. The hand-painted panel should display micro-craquelure within the varnish rather than smooth modern printed textures.

Position the piece as a standalone accent furniture item against a neutral backdrop to allow the dark timber and painted panel to stand out. Complement the warm rosewood tones by styling the open shelves with minimalist ceramics or bound volumes.

Dust the surfaces regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent build-up. Avoid using harsh chemical spray cleaners or liquid polishes directly on hand-painted panels, and position the furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood shrinkage or paint cracking.
