Robert Belcher Antiques has dated this Arts Crafts Copper Box to the 1900s.
The front face of the box is beautifully hand decorated with an intricate Arts and Crafts William Morris style panel of a stylised vine with fruit. The reverse of the box is plain as are the sides apart from the addition of a fine hand made rope twist ring handles with hand worked leaf back plates.

The top of this fine piece has a stepped edge with a matching rolled edge boarder which holds the magnificent Arts and Crafts repousse panel, again following a William Morris inspired design of a leafy branch bearing three apples finely raised and hand worked in the copper with engraved detailing and a hand punched background and boarded edge. It is finished in two toned dark and light original patination. The top is located with an inner raised flange which is a precise fit with the box. When lifted off it reveals a mahogany lined interior.

This very fine Arts and Crafts box is well made in a good heavy gauge of copper sheet. It is in excellent original condition and has never been cleaned or polished.
A rare survivor, English circa 1900.
