This very stylish and sharply executed handmade copper box dates to the late 19th century. It is raised onto splayed shaped bracket feet which are attached to the base which is finished with a neat small rolled edge. The front face of the box is beautifully hand decorated with an intricate Arts and Crafts William Morris style panel of a stylised vine with fruit. The reverse of the box is plain as are the sides apart from the addition of a fine hand made rope twist ring handles with hand worked leaf back plates.The top of this fine piece has a stepped edge with a matching rolled edge boarder which holds the magnificent Arts and Crafts repousse panel, again following a William Morris inspired design of a leafy branch bearing three apples finely raised and hand worked in the copper with engraved detailing and a hand punched background and boarded edge.
