Georgian Mahogany Bracket Clock By Grant Of London

A very good quality George IV figured mahogany arched top bracket clock standing on brass bracket feet with boxwood and ebony string inlay to the front of the case, edged in ebony string detail. The case has brass fish scale sound frets to the sides with red silk, a brass bezel and is finished with brass carrying handle to the top. The clock comes with a contemporary, traditionally handmade mahogany wall bracket.
 
The clock has a white enamel 7 inch dish dial with Roman numerals and moon hands and it has the makers name

The movement is a five pillar, twin fusee, eight day duration with pull repeat action which strikes the hours on a bell. The movement back plate and pendulum have a decorative engraved design.
 
John Grant has born 1796 and was registered as working at Fleet Street, London from 1817 - 1867 and became a master in 1838, 1839, 1846, 1858 and 1868. He came from a very talented family of clock makers. His father John Grant Senior became a Freema...
