  • SizeH 16 cm (6 in)

Opaque twist glasses feature intricate white or coloured enamel glass threads encased within the stem, a technique popularized in England during the mid-18th century following the repeal of the Glass Excise Act.

These pieces are crafted from lead glass, known for its heavy feel and brilliant clarity, combined with drawn stem construction where the bowl and stem were pulled from a single gather of molten metal.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit genuine age-related wear such as fine scratches on the foot rim, a rough pontil mark on the underside, and minor inclusions or air bubbles within the handmade glass matrix.

Antique stemware is best displayed in a dedicated glass-fronted cabinet, open shelving with secure plate grooves, or curated on a historic sideboard to highlight its craftsmanship.

Antique glass should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh abrasives to preserve the delicate surface integrity.
